I the night of my first concert (Styx @Roberts Stadium in Evansville in the late '70's) waiting for my friend to get home from work. He worked in a town about 30 minutes away. I kept waiting and waiting...he never showed up. I was able to track down another friend, and we made the one hour trip to E'ville. I saw my first rock show and bought my first black bootleg concert t-shirt.

The next day, I discovered that my friend had decided to dip into his cooler on the way home from work and spent the night in jail. His bad decision kept me waiting and worrying...turns out it also left his parents waiting and worrying, too. In this day and age of technology, not only would I have known what happened, but so would the entire town.

I got my memories and my t-shirt, he lost his freedom.

As far as today, the smartphone is nice for clicking a couple of pictures and communicating departure/arrival updates to loved ones, but that's it for me. Well, other than not having to buy a Bic lighter to flick in tribute. Gotta love those screens.
