Share The Covers

It is my contention that the best cover songs are those that have been reworked to present the cover artist’s style while maintaining the integrity of the original. In our lives, we have listened to hundreds, maybe thousands of such pieces of work. Some are obvious covers of hit songs delivered in unique fashion by an admiring artist. Some are so popular, they are believed to BE the original. You have shared some of your favorite cover songs with me and I have included them in today’s playlist. Some of the songs presented are my choices for unique and respectful songs performed by someone other than the owner of the music and lyrics.  Ryan Adams’ version of Oasis’ “Wonderwall” is one of my favorites. I, along with a large percentage of others, believe that there is not a better version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” than the one performed by Jeff Buckley. The passion and uninhibited presentation given by Mr. Buckley leaves me speechless and breathless. Another of my own personal contributions to the playlist is “Lady Is A Tramp” as performed by Justin Vernon (the brainchild behind Bon Iver). He keeps his version close to the original by transforming himself into a 1940’s style crooner, a Justin Vernon I have never witnessed before, backed by a high school band from his old stomping grounds.

Please enjoy the playlist full of your contributions. We make a great team and I would like to thank you for sharing, as always. I hope you find something unique to your musical soul and share with your friends.
